It’s a Dog’s Life

At their latest meeting the members of the Rotary Club of Bolsover welcomed speakers Katrina and Jane from the Sheffield Greyhound Trust who were supported by the star of the evening, greyhound Demi.

Sheffield Greyhound Trust is a branch of the national Greyhound Trust operating in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire area. Their single aim is to care for dogs no longer able to race and provide as many of them as possible with fully vetted and loving homes for so that these beautiful animals can continue to live a full and enjoyable life. They operate one of the largest regional home-finding kennels in the UK dedicated to the homing of greyhounds no longer able to race because of injury, age or simply not being fast enough. Based in Wortley, they are home to 26 greyhounds at any one time. The Trust work on a policy of never “putting a dog to sleep” while it is in good health and no pain regardless of its age.

The Rotary members and guests present were impressed by the commitment given by the volunteers who run this safe haven for dogs that are in need of love, care and a new home. On behalf of the club President Rita Reed presented the Sheffield Greyhound Rescue with a donation towards their continuing good work.
